Committed to facilitating lifelong learning, she has taught early childhood music as a certified Musikgarten instructor and Recreational Music Making classes for adult students. In addition to teaching private lessons, she loves directing and teaching piano camps, group-piano courses, and arts-outreach initiatives. Reeder has enjoyed adjunct faculty member positions at the University of Houston and Lone Star College-University Park. She has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Furman Symphony Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras, and Union Symphony Orchestra.Ī Nationally Certified Teacher of Music, Ms. Reeder has given numerous solo recitals and remains an active collaborative musician. She is a member of the Texas Music Teachers Association, serving as Coordinator for the state-wide Performance Contest and is an active member of her local association. Courtney Crappell and her research was presented at several conferences, including the MTNA Collegiate Chapters Pedagogy Symposium and the Graduate Association of Musicologist and Theorists student conference. In 2015, she moved to Texas to pursue a masters in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Houston. She was the recipient of the Hirsch Memorial Scholarship Endowment and the Sigma Alpha Iota collegiate honor award. Her education included programs at the Academia dell’Arte in Italy and a summer program at the Brevard Music Center in NC. Her studies began at Furman University in Greenville, SC, where she earned a Bachelors in Piano Performance. A native of North Carolina, pianist Joanna Evelyn Reeder, NCTM, now enjoys a full-time career in Houston, Texas as a teacher and artist.
